Getting to Grizzly Creek Lodge

There are 3 main options to get to Grizzly Creek Lodge, which is located 90 air miles east of Watson Lake. The first step for most people will be getting to Whitehorse (airport code CYXY). Whitehorse has daily jet service to Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary year round, offered by Air Canada Jazz and/or Air North. In the summer, direct flights from Germany are offered by Condor.

We strongly recommend that you plan to arrive in Whitehorse the day before your planned departure for Grizzly Creek. See the Guide to Whitehorse for lots of things to see and do there.

From Whitehorse you can fly direct to the lodge in a floatplane (we use Alpine Aviation) or rent a car and drive to Watson Lake, from where you can take a floatplane (we use Northern Rockies Air). Alpine Aviation will pick up at the airport or your hotel - luggage must be limited to 50 lbs. for each person. We arrange all transportation from Whitehorse to the lodge, whether by air or road, and it is included in our quoted price. Many people prefer to drive as they get to see more of the Yukon, and most really enjoy the drive. The flight from Watson Lake in a Beaver is about 45 minutes, from Whitehorse about 3 hours. From Whitehorse to Watson Lake by road (the all-paved Alaska Highway) is about 260 miles and takes about 4½ hours to drive.

If you have your own wheel plane, you can land at Watson Lake (CYQH) and take our floatplane from there. The asphalt runway at Watson Lake is 5500 x 150 feet, at an elevation of 2,255 feet. The coordinates are 60° 06' 59" N, 128° 49' 21" W. At present there is a hanger where planes can be parked, but it is for sale so we are not sure how long that will be available.
